Start with a normal working Tuesday

Before you pack, work for a day using only the equipment you plan to take. Join a call, charge your laptop and use the files you need. You will notice a missing adapter much sooner at home than between meetings after arrival. Ask your host what is already there: a proper chair, a desk, towels, laundry facilities and somewhere quiet for calls can save both luggage and uncertainty.

Your work essentials

Keep your laptop, its charger, phone, charging cables and the adapter suitable for your destination together. Add the mouse, compact keyboard or headset you actually use. A laptop stand only helps if you also have a workable keyboard and mouse setup. Label similar cables and keep a small pouch for the ones that tend to disappear.

Make arriving easier

Carry the essentials for your first working day where you can reach them. Keep your accommodation address and arrival instructions available offline. Before leaving, check that your account recovery methods work away from your usual phone connection, and back up the files you need. Ask about mobile coverage and a realistic internet backup before you arrive; a packed hotspot is only useful with coverage and a suitable data plan.

Pack for a week, not every possibility

Choose clothes you can combine and wash. Comfortable shoes, a light layer, swimwear and the kit for the activity you really enjoy usually do more for daily life than several just-in-case outfits. Check the season and laundry arrangements. A month away does not have to mean a month of different clothes.

The small checklist

Work: laptop, charger, destination adapter, phone cables, call headset and your everyday accessories. Life: repeatable outfits, walking shoes, swim or sports kit, toiletries and one familiar comfort. Arrival: documents, offline directions, contact details and the things you need before you unpack. Check your carrier’s baggage and battery rules for your actual journey.

Leave a little room

Bring something that helps you settle: a notebook, a book or your favourite tea. Leave space for something you find there. The aim is a bag that supports a normal day, so your attention can move from managing belongings to enjoying where you are. Read our workation planning guide before choosing your dates and workspace.
