Travelling with a pet is a different planning exercise from travelling alone. A destination that excites you may not suit your animal, and a pet-friendly room is only one part of the decision.
Begin with the pace. Longer stays and fewer transfers may be worth considering before comparing destinations. Discuss your own animal's suitability for travel with a vet, especially where health, age or behaviour makes the journey more complicated.
Plan the whole route, including coming back
Check entry requirements for each destination, transit rules and the return journey before buying tickets. Ask the airline about your actual route and animal, including carrier dimensions, booking arrangements and whether a pet place is available. Do not assume that buying your own ticket reserves space for your pet.
For EU journeys with dogs, cats and ferrets, official guidance covers identification, rabies vaccination and the relevant passport or health certificate. Additional requirements can depend on the route, including antibody testing or treatment for particular destinations. Use the official EU pet-travel checker and your vet to plan the sequence and timing. Requirements checked for this article on 20 October 2026; recheck before each trip.
Get the accommodation details in writing
Tell the host the species, size and number of pets. Ask about fees, shared spaces, time left alone, cleaning and any restrictions. “Pets considered” is different from an unconditional acceptance.
Look beyond attractive photographs. Consider secure doors, access to an appropriate outdoor area, room temperature and the route for everyday walks. Ask how the arrangement works around other guests and animals.
Make a local care plan
Locate a vet, check how you would reach them and keep records accessible. Work out whether your usual food and necessary supplies are available. Discuss any medical needs with your vet in advance.
Think about the working day too. Who looks after the pet during a long outing or a period of calls? Budget for appropriate care rather than assuming housemates will help.
Let the pet change the itinerary
If the journey or accommodation does not suit the animal, choose another plan. Travelling less frequently can still be a mobile life. The measure of a good trip is not how many borders you cross together.
Beeloha does not currently promise pet acceptance across every location. Ask about the specific property and get confirmation before booking travel.
